Remembering Gord McIntosh

Andrew “Gord” McIntosh (1950–2025) was a journalist, communications strategist, and longtime leader in Ottawa’s professional communications community.

He began his career in newspapers in southwestern Ontario before spending more than 20 years with The Canadian Press, becoming a familiar presence on Parliament Hill covering national affairs. His reporting was known for integrity, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge those in power.

In the early 2000s, Gord transitioned into communications consulting and public affairs. He was particularly proud of his work as Chief Strategist for a Canadian Medical Association advocacy campaign, which earned national and international recognition.

Gord was also deeply committed to mentorship and the professional community. As President of IABC Ottawa (2006–2008), he helped strengthen the chapter and brought thoughtful speakers and conversations to local communicators.

Colleagues remember him as insightful, generous with his time, and endlessly curious about how communications shapes the world. Whether discussing strategy, media, politics, or emerging tools, Gord believed communicators should keep learning, and keep helping each other.
