Meet Your Board Member: Fabiana Ferraresso (October 2026)

Each month, IABC Ottawa features a member of our Board to introduce them to the membership and share a bit about their careers. In October, we talked to our VP of Volunteers and Membership Engagement

Your Title: Multilingual Communications and Administrative Professional

1.You’ve built an international career across Brazil and Canada, with experience spanning financial services, education and communications. How have those different experiences shaped the professional you are today?

My career has given me the opportunity to work across different industries and cultures. From financial services in Brazil to communications in Canada, each experience taught me to be adaptable, curious and people focused. Today, I bring that combination of organization, communication and relationship-building to everything I do.

2. Your career has evolved across executive support, project coordination, stakeholder engagement and communications. What skills have been most valuable as you’ve grown and taken on new opportunities?

Definitely adaptability. I’ve worked with very different audiences and often managed multiple priorities at once. Learning to listen, stay organized, communicate clearly and adapt when things change has been invaluable throughout my career.

3. What drew you to IABC Ottawa, and how has volunteering and serving on the Board contributed to your professional growth?

IABC brought together two things I really value: communications and community. Volunteering and serving on the Board have allowed me to meet inspiring professionals, develop my leadership skills and contribute to something beyond my day-to-day work. It’s also reminded me how much we can learn from each other.

4. You’ve spent much of your career working with senior leaders, stakeholders and teams across different countries and cultures. What have those experiences taught you about effective communication and relationship-building?

That effective communication starts with listening and understanding. People have different perspectives, expectations and communication styles, so I’ve learned to adapt while staying authentic. Building trust takes time, but genuine relationships make everything else easier.

5. Looking at the communications profession today, where do you see the greatest opportunities for professionals who want to grow their careers?

I see a lot of opportunity for people who can combine communication skills with technology, strategic thinking and strong relationship-building. AI is changing how we work, but it doesn’t replace judgment, empathy or storytelling. I think the professionals who embrace the change while keeping the human side of communication at the centre will have a real advantage.
